Quiet dining above busy bar - We went to First Floor before seeing a movie at the Electric Cinema. It’s a nice restaurant above a cosy bar on Portobello Rd. Very old fashioned English decor with white tablecloths and pink walls in a large dining room with a large wood bar. There was only one other table filled so not sure what that means but we had a good experience.

The waitress was nice and accommodating and had a good opinion of the dishes on the menu; the food was really good too. I had salmon over carmelized endive and pea puree and ate every last bite! Such unique flavours of the sweetness of the peas and the bitter endive. It worked well. They also served huge rock oysters as a starter which were a hit. My friend had spaghetti with clams and she enjoyed that and another friend had the sticky beef with a mushroom and lardon sauce with parsnip puree which he also loved. Portions are hearty so you leave full. Each of us had a glass of wine and the bill was £25 pp. 21-11-08
