Exquisito London Reviews

Not bad but not very Mexican either - I went here with three friends and it was decent enough and we had fun but there was very little on the menu that anyone who's been to non-tourist Mexico at all often would recognise as Mexican.

I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who wanted a true taste of Mexico.

Also the service was cheerful but a bit hit and miss as both waitresses were from Eastern Europe/former USSR and their grasp of English was pretty ropey. They happily admitted they knew nothing about Mexican food.

Perfect - Unpretentious and friendly, this restaurant achieves the near impossible by managing to feel comfortable wherever you sit within it and regardless of how busy (or not) it is.
Other reviewers will point out the enormous portions but the food is often excellent as well. Squid is generally a bland food but the grilled starter here was bursting with such flavour that having it as both starter and main would not have been considered odd.

The downside is its location. It is an oasis in an area otherwise barren of decent pubs and restaurants. There is little passing trade (other than on Arsenal home game days) and it is hoped it doesn't fall victim to the recession. If the restaurant was transported to an upmarket and accessible area, it would be packed to the rafters, even with a significant menu price hike.

Down mexico way - It must be said that I'm now living the tipped.com dream i.e. punter searches restaurant on tipped, eats at said restaurant and then reviews it for the good of other tippers - a virtuous cycle of all round tipped goodness!

In spite of the restaurant taking a little time to find, my wife and I persevered, eshewing the easy fish-and-chips option, in the hope that we'd be missing a litte gem in Exquisito. We weren't disappointed either; Exquisito was the pefect pre-gig dinner; healthy, sizeable, tasty and rapido given that Springsteen hit the Emirates stage at 7.30pm. After my last jaunt to the home of Arsenal, I was determined not to eat at the stadium itself - I'd only just stopped having nighmares about the pizza (grease flavour)that I'd consumed there in February. It must also be said that I need little incentive not to spend any cash at Arsenal given that I support a rival team.

My only word of caution is to think carefully about how much you order, as the portions are big. We ordered a nachos to share at the start and then had a burrito/ fajitas for our main dish... the starter could have been easily skipped and our appetites still would have been satiated. On top of that, I sucked down a couple of Dos Equis (Mexican beer) that tasted great.

Too often Tex Mex places can be done poorly (see Billy Joe's in Ealing)and the food is sub-standard. Exquisito bucks that trend and does it in a warm, intimate environment that brings authenticity without going over the top.

Three great things about my dinner at Exqisito:

1. It was great tasting, genuine Tex Mex food.
2. The place wasn't pretentious and over-delivered on expectation.
3. My wife picked up the tab.

The only thing that breaks my heart is the number of Gooners it serves down there, although thankfully, that didn't spoil my enjoyment of what is a real find.

Not a Sombrero in sight!! - This is North London’s best kept secret!! It's not a chain so there are no cheesy over sized sombreros, the menus isn't pages long and there are no brightly coloured cocktails with the word "fiesta" in them. Instead this is a small family owned place with a very enticing, friendly and down to earth feel. The food is excellent-I would recommend their rib eye steak. If you are looking to pop out for dinner somewhere quick and easy then this is the place for you. They also offer a discount before 7pm-I believe it is 20%. Excellent value for money, this is one of my favourite restaurants in London : )
