Souk Medina London Reviews

Quiet Monday - I suppose most restaurants are quiet on a Monday night but Souk was surprisingly quiet. This did mean that food did arrive very quickly, unfortunately drinks didn’t! The waitress was friendly but I got the feeling she did not understand what we were saying when we asked for slight changes from the menu (due to food allergy). When asking “has the pita bread been made here” we got the answer yes, but when it was finally brought to us it was clearly not baked on site.
Food was really good though, the place it cute and I would go back again.

A woman's perogative... - ...to change her mind.

Ok, so the second review, but it has to be said - I must revise my earlier comments.

What a shame. Normally so good and so much fun. But here's a tip: NEVER go on a Saturday night.

We booked through toptable, usually great for sorting out our bookings. But they allowed us to book for 8pm when they have only 7pm and 9pm sittings. Souk called us directly to advise us of this but insisted we would only have to wait a few minutes in the bar and it wouldn't be a problem.

Oh, how wrong. We were seated at 9pm. Unacceptable. Had I been correctly informed, I would have been happy to make a plan.

It was packed to the rafters, people were squashed in and it was uncomfortable. The belly dancer was 'hoiking' her skirt up every 30 seconds and it nearly ended up on the floor.

By some sort of saving grace, management offered us a free bottle of wine, yet when presented with the bill, 3 separate waiters came over to tell us they hadn't charged us enough.

I was so disappointed and surprised, I had taken family as had such good experiences before and was really let down by an all round poor experience.

Again - Saturday nights, avoid like the plague. Souk has become unpredictable!

Avoid... just avoid - Souk Medina accomplishes something that you'd hope is difficult in a city as cosmopolitan as London. It manages to miss on all levels, catering to tourists, drunk suburbanites and those generally those not deserving to live in such a great metropolis.

We went as a birthday party and as soon as you go in you suspect that they specialise in such events. The place transcends being an ethnic restaurant to become a theme park, a take on what is done so much better elsewhere. It is a pastiche.

What was on offer? An all you can eat deal that would lead you to believe that the a la carte would hardly be better. What rubbish.

Greasy, starch laden re-heatables designed to fill you up beyond caring of quality. There's no point in going into details as every dish was as lamentable as the price was high. Twenty something pounds a person would have delivered a stunning meal with change at the north end of Portobello Rd where the real Moroccans hang out.

OK, the belly dancer was cute but it was hardly a saving grace. Avoid like the plague and tell your friends.

Where exactly do I stick the money? - Ahhh, Souk. This is one of your lively, middle-of-the-road Morroccons. If you are seeking up-market Morroccon with a great, enticing bar - go to Momos. If you just want something delicious fun and lively, then this is your venue.

Belly dancers are always good and the music is loud and lively. Sometimes the music can be a little too much but they tend to be quite good with turning it down if you ask.

Definately a place for lounging in and taking your time. So if you are not comfortable 'lounging' on comfy seats, don't come.
