Konstam At The Prince Albert London Reviews

Eating from within the M25 - i really enjoyed my visit to konstam. their modus operandi is that most (85%) the ingredients they use are sourced from the greater london area. There was a TV show about the creation of Konstam, following chef Oliver Rowe and his trials and tribulations, but I can't remember what it was called. But this doesn't make Konstam a novelty restaurant

The setting is a refurbed pub (decked out in fine chains by thomas heatherwick) and there aren't that many tables meaning that it doesn't get too noisy. The first thing the waiter said is 'is tap water okay?', which I LOVED - I hate being made feel that I should buy bottled. The lighting is pretty low-key and from the restaurant you get a view of the kitchen (but apparently there is another section of the kitchen downstairs).

There is only one veggie option, which was okay apart from the fact that the starter was soup - b.o.r.i.n.g - but the main course - pierogi - was lovely, as were the desserts (crumble ice cream, mmmmm). If you don't eat pork like my boyfriend or his mum, be warned because a lot of the chicken etc was wrapped in bacon, but the fact that the menu had the date at the head of it makes me think that they change the menu often. My boyfriend had lemon sole for starters and a lamb main course which was (on his good word) delicious.

A nice touch: they grow herbs in little trays to use in their meals. Also they put their tickets on a wire washing line - for some reason I really liked that.

Anyone who has read any of my reviews will know that service is very important to me and on that front konstam scores 11/10. I will warn you the service can be a little slow, but the staff are so friendly that you don't really notice - and if you do need to get their attention they aren't offended by mad waving! Also, this isn't the sort of place where they turn tables - they were quite happy to let us sit and enjoy our meal.

The bill came to £130 for four of use with two bottles of the cheapest white, which I think is reasonably priced, but I'm not sure what other people think.

It's definitely not worth 5, because it wasn't out of this world, but for an intimate dining experience with quality food and great service it's definitely worth the trip to kings cross.
