Haircuts - experience over 45 years - Buccheri Barber Shop - at Golders Green Station

How's this for customer loyalty?

John Buccheri (aka Johnny) has been cutting my hair now for 45 years - and it is still growing. John, of Italian descent, first had a small salon in Macclesfield Street, Soho, and it was there that I was introduced to him in 1963. In modest premises, he also cut the hair of celebrities at the time, and it is reputed that his customers included Frankie Vaughan and the infamous Kray twins. Ask him and he will tell you.

After being bought out by the Chinese (he was in Chinatown in London), he eventually reopened his business in Golders Green, as an old-style Barber's Shop, with an illuminated barber's pole outside.

I am 71, and still travel from Hampshire - more than 50 miles each way - to have him cut my hair. I am not the only long-term customer who similarly remains loyal - there are many from the Soho days, quite a lot of taxi drivers, for instance.

To be fair, John works now only part-time. John is even older than me, and has his golf and other interests, not the least being his young grandson. You will, though, find him there most Wednesdays, as well as Saturdays, as a rule. The day-to-day business is run by a relative, John Smith, who is equally good, and there are a couple of other excellent regular barbers there, including Alfredo.

This barber's shop has a loyal clientelle of which it can justly be proud. Long may it continue to flourish and be successful.
