Han Kang London Reviews

Choose carefully! - I went here with a group of work mates for a quick lunch. The people beside us were eating really nice looking stuff, one looked like beef and onions on a sizzling plate, served with rice. There was something that matched that description on the lunch specials, and I was tossing up between that, or the bento box, one which came with a salmon steak, the other with chicken. I went for the beef with vegetables and rice, and boy did I regret it!

My meal was a bowl of rice with some pickled cabbage, a grating of carrot and about a thumbnail size of shaved beef. With next to no flavour, I must admit that I suffered from food envy. The other people at my table, for about the same price, had amazing meals with which they were delighted.
I would go back here, but I would look around the restaurant, see someone eating what you want, and ask for that!

Wonderful food - had a great meal in here, pancakes for starters and then we all had various mains, 68,69,71 methinks. We paid £16 a head but they had lunch specials for around £8 I think. Definitely go back.

Pretty Good - My experience of Korean food is limited to a quick visit to a Korean Bar B Q that has since closed down, it was one of those places where you choose the ingredients and they cook it for you - she was veggie I loaded mine with meat, she liked it less spicey and I loaded up on chillis - they both tasted identical!

So I wasn't overly expectant when I arrived at Han Kang, standing in the doorway waiting for our seat however the smell was awesome and the bowls of noodle stuff looked delicious.

We sat at the bar, kind of like a sushi bar bit without sushi and condiments. We ordered a green tea and a wine, the green tea came with the tea bag still in it.

For food we had a Korean seafood pancake, some barbequed spare ribs and pork belly. The pancake was awesome, a little like a vietnamese pancake I once had but much tastier. Both the beef and pork came on one of those iron dishes that are super hot lying on a bed of onions, they tasted alright but it was very simple and not a whole bunch of flavour - we thought that one of them was coming with some sauce so we ordered another dish of the pork with sauce but basically it was just lightly marinated.

I did eat everything and it tasted nice but I felt a little let down, the meat was essentially cheap cuts and there was little to no seasoning - we did have some Kimchi that was delicious though.

I'd definitely come back here but next time I'll be having some kind of bowl of noodles type thing that other people were eating, I was a little jealous of their food. The atmosphere was great though, very dark and plenty of people chatting away. The meal came to about £20 each which is a bit more expensive that I would have paid but I reckon you could easily fill youself here for less than a tenner.
