The brainchild of Tim Bacon, an actor who at the time was 'resting' between work, The Living Room is a chain of modern bars with live music that are staffed by 'resting' actors. Serving a variety of beers, wines, spirits and cocktails as well as a variety of dishes (complete with kids menu), this chain proves popular with all who frequent it.

The New Type Of Hangout? - The Living Room surprised me. From the outside, I was just expecting typical gastropub. It was actually more than that, and despite being quite hip and trendy, I found myself really enjoying it. The bar/pub area downstairs is spacious, nicely lit for an evening and great for celebrations between friends. The place is easy to find and very near Regent Street - so, still local to everything. Coat check is located quite conveniently also.

One thing let this place down. Maybe it was because it was midweek, or maybe it was just like that. But, the bar staff were not very attentive. They'd notice you, you'd exchange eye contact, and they'd STILL manage to serve someone that arrived at the bar after you had.

After drinking, I decided to get some food with a friend. We'd not booked a table upstairs, but didn't find it at all difficult to get a table (please bear in mind that it wasn't Friday-Sunday). We were seated within five minutes of asking for the table and the waiter was over instantly.

The food was gorgeous, not over-priced and cooked perfectly. I had ordered the rib-eye steak and haven't found a better one since.

Will definitely go back there, despite the poor bar service. I'll give this place another chance to rub off on me and for me to forgive its sins.

Perhaps this new spacious, gastropub-esque serving excellent food on a separate floor is the new type of pub that people want?
