Good value Japanese local - Some friends took us along to Yuzu, a favourite local haunt of theirs in West Hampstead. It is a 5-10 minute walk up the hill from West Hamsptead tube.

We started with very fresh sashimi and edamame, followed with a selection of maki rolls which were better than average but not amazing. The main courses and portions of rice were small, but the mains themselves were delicious. Salmon teriyaki was tangy and flaky, and an unusual beef dish was quite spicy. The black cod was delicious.

There was no sake the night we went much to the disappointment of my husband but he seemed to be satisfied with a few Asahis instead. The restaurant decor is simple, but as its a small space it gets full very quickly.

If you live in the area you would definitely visit Yuzu frequently, but its probably not worth travelling to; head over to Don Zoko in the West End instead. 07-09-08
