Apple Store UK London Reviews

Where's my straight jacket? - The Apple store on Regent street absolutely, hands down, drives me freaking nuts.

Don't get me wrong. It is a beautiful store. Big and shiny with all those beautiful Apple products on display to fawn over...

But if you are looking to actually get help or purchase something here in a hurry - foggetaboutit. Be prepared to spend at least 20 minutes wandering around looking for a sales person who will inevitably end up redirecting your ass upstairs so that you can grab an empty box of software and take it back downstairs where another sales associate will have to go in the back to look for the actual product (I think they also sit and have their lunch during this time) and finally you will stand around wondering if you should queue up or if they have those nifty remote terminals like the other Apple stores do.

Oh and Genius Bar? Be sure to book an appointment at least a week in advance.

I sure do love Apple products, but the stores (and this experience isn't just related to the London store, it pretty much replicates to any Apple store) drive me bananas.

My advice? Steal the wifi, chill in the chairs upstairs, but if you want to actually purchase something do it online. Free shipping and no headache trying to explain to a pimply teenager what an ethernet cable is.

One more notable fact about the London Apple store. They have glass staircases. And it is rumoured that the sales associates like to stand under them when girls in skirts are going up... DIRTY!

its an internet cafe right? - I've never actually bought an Apple product in the UK and have used the 'Genius Bar' here only once which was tedious to say the least HOWEVER if you're in town and need to check your e-mails or look at a map to find out where you're going you can just wander in the shop and check on one of the many computers that are on display - they're all hooked up to the internet - and its not even like they mind - I think this makes it a great store.

A great shopping experience - If you are unable to derive any pleasure from visiting the Apple store then check your pulse. I can't think of any shop that provides such an all encompassing experience of its brand and what it stands for.

The place is beautifully laid out, geared towards users getting a hands on experience of the product without being intimidated by sales staff. Moreover, there are more add-ons and extras than you can shake a stick at.

Not sure whether they still do it, but they used to run classes/ tips & tricks sessions for users to improve their product knowledge, which is handy for those still navigating the muliple features in iTunes.

Presumeably the people who didn't rate this store, prefer to be either ignored or met by 'sorry mate we don't have it' approach favoured by most central London shops.

er...this is a shop isn't it? - I guess I’m just old fashioned but it’s not a proper shop. It’s full of people wandering about, it’s very hard to work out who the staff are as opposed to just hip middle-class yoots and the products are beautifully presented about a mile apart so actually finding what you want requires a lot of walking… mostly though mobs of teenagers if you go on a weekend. The popularity of the store as a destination as well as a shop means long queues to look at stuff, buy stuff and speak to any of the numerous but well camouflaged staff. The thing I can’t understand is why you would actually shop there as opposed to shop online. If you want a Mac you’ll get a good deal (maybe better) online plus you can spec the machine up to what you want. There’s no advantage to buying anything computer related on the high street unless you need it right away (like a USB cable or something peripheral) although having said that, the last time I went into the Apple store I needed a full-size-to-mini-USB cable and they didn’t have one in stock. Maplins up the road did, but there it was hanging off an ordinary chrome rack as opposed to hanging off a beautifully crafted wooden display unit. My advice would be to go to the Apple Store, have some fun hanging out, have some lunch then go home and buy your Apple stuff online.

St Steve's Cathedral - Like shopping? Love Apple products? This is certainly the place to be seen.

St Steve's Cathedral (a.k.a. The House of Pod) is the biggest Apple Store in Europe, and one of Apple's main flagship stores worldwide.

Complete with glass staircase and lift, this enormous store stocks a full range of Apple merch as well as third party accessories. If they don't stock it, you probably don't need it.
