The Odd One Out - Amongst the trifecta of LSE pubs (the Three Tuns, the George and the Beaver's Retreat), the Olde White Horse stands out as something of an enigma. While the other pubs more or less have their assigned audience (undergrads, postgrads and faculty, respectively), the White Horse doesn't appear to fit in. The pub, - a cozy, dark, red-tinted place with a fireplace in the back - is nice enough and has some real ales on offer, but it is rather cramped as well.
The crowd, I have now figured out, is somewhat more directed towards the research assistants and PhD students, or at least appeared to be when a large group of all of the TA's I've had over the past term came in one group to sit in the back and get drunk.
The pub has been advertising its new menu which is set to launch at the end of February. As of now the best they can do is a packet of crisps to go with your lager. They'll have to provide relatively low prices to compete with nearby options like Wrights Bar.
As the pub is a little hidden away from the LSE campus proper, it can be a nice place to sneak off for a quick pint, but I'm not sure if the White Horse is going to displace any of the more established student watering holes. 23-02-08
