Vegetarian in London - Covent Garden
31 Neal Street , Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9PR
+44 (0) 20 7836 0239

Established in 1974, this ever popular and innovative vegetarian restaurant and takeaway offers outstanding value from its freshly-prepared, daily-changing A La Carte menu with vegan and wheat-free options. Three-course meals cost under 10 pounds and there is no corkage charge for BYO's. Seating is cramped and at peak times you may have to queue on the narrow stairs and be prepared to share tables, but portions are generous. The basement restaurant is air-conditioned and operates a no-smoking policy throughout.

Food For Thought London Reviews

Nice food, aggressive staff member - Nice food, seating conditions are cramped, but I knew that before I went. However, the guy who clears the plates shouted at me that he needed the table back. I was still eating, and had only been there around 15 minutes. When I told him this, he was aggressive, and gave me evils when I left later on. So, nice food marred by aggressive staff member. What a shame.

Good, Cheap and Vegetarian - For the past few days I've been doing some work in Covent Garden which is a nice change of scenery and also ebables me to walk to work in just under 45 minutes - healthy!

I was however worried about lunchtime eating arrangements.

Central London, by the very nature of being the centre of one of the busiest capital cities in the world, is not a cheap place - I was surprised then to be directed to Food for Thought.

Its a really reasonably priced vegetarian cafe with an amazing atmoshpere situated right in the middle of Neal St (shoe / trainer shop central).

There's a small upstairs where you can get take-out and a larger seated area downstairs. Yesterday I went and had Sheperdess Pie with a large side salad (pasta, lentils, leaves etc) for £7.50 but I couldn't finish it. Today I had just a main, Carribean Curry which was £4.40 and easliy enough. They seem to change the menu daily and there's a choice of 3 mains, a few salads and desserts. The tables downstairs are quite small but the nice thing is that everyone shares tables, you'll quite often see solitary types nose deep into their book chomping on some veg.

The queues that lead up the street are testament to how good the food is as is the fact that I'll be going back again tomorrow and I'm not even veggie.
