The Astoria London Reviews

I am a planet - I went here last night (a Saturday), having only been here once before, about a year ago. It is my type of place.

You have a big room in the middle, then these two smaller rooms overlooking it on either side. So you can look down at people and make fun of their drunken antics.

So it was an indie and nu-rave (what IS that?) night, the flyer said electro too but don't let that fool you; there was none. There was a promotion on with JD & coke at £2.50, so that became a principle part of the night. I've thought that JD gives me a weird sort of drunk...inane would be a good descriptive term. I spent much of the night enthusiatically shouting:

"I AM A PLANET!!! I AM A PLANET!!! YOU'RE NOTHING BUT ASTEROIDS TO ME!!"

Anyway.. later in the night I discovered that a whiskey and coke is in fact £2, which, had I known earlier, would have either gotten my even more drunk or left me with more money left over at the end (for chips). So here you've got a cheap night, and on a Saturday no less. it was free entry as this was the first of a new night they are doing, but usual entry price is £6. So you can get entry and seven drinks for £20, which makes this a delightful addition to our binge drink culture. Not sure about the prices of other drinks...though a can of Red Stripe was £3.20 I recall.

The people here were cool and friendly, not a hint of trouble through the whole place. It stayed open until four, and I saw two bands play. Music was nice and varied, they even played one of my favourite songs, Weezer's 'Buddy Holly'. Plus there's lots of different rooms and areas to explore (I like this in a club).

Five circles: I'll be back.
