Influenced by the European movement of Humanism and the spread of literacy, John Knox was an influential preacher, soon renowned as being one of the most dangerous men in in Scotland by Mary, Queen of Scots. Both the Queen and Knox remained hostile to one another until their deaths. The death of John Knox in November 1572 was regarded as a national tragedy. This museum chronicles the life of what the Earl of Morton described as a man who 'never feared the face of man'
