Le Caprice London Reviews

Luxurious - I came here on a Sunday, for what was supposed to be a brunch but actually turned into a longer lunch. Clearly I didn't do my research; I rocked up in a pair of scuffed Converse trainers looking rather like I'd rolled out of a night club an hour previously, but not an eyebrow was raised. We dined at the bar which isn't as awkward as I thought it would be. When I arrived there were a couple of tables and it was very quiet indeed; when we left, it was positively heaving.

Their menu reads very well. It's quite a long one, and I found it hard to choose what to have. Eventually I settled on Octopus & Chorizo with Padron Peppers, and then a wild duck dish with prunes and sprout tops. Both were delicious and immaculately presented. My dining companion was so impressed with his foie gras and fried egg on toast, he wondered if perhaps they should get a room.

Service was efficient and excellent. I did, however, almost fall off my stool when I saw the bill...

not enough nice words... - .. to describe this restaurant. What I like about this restaurant is that the waiting staff aren’t snooty and always make you feel like a regular (if only I could afford to be!). My friends were 1 hour late to meet me as they got stuck in traffic, but the waiters were lovely and kept me supplied with newspapers.

The décor is pure monochrome Art Deco and is kinda 80s, but I like the fact it’s not uber-cool and maybe even a little shabby (compared to say the newer Scotts). The ambience at dinner makes me think of American Pyscho (not the killing bits) for some reason, it’s much more chilled at lunch – and you are welcome to have a long, long lunch – we never felt under any pressure to leave even though we were the only diners left.

Apparently the scallops were amongst the best my friend had tasted but I was happy because it’s really good for vegetarians – you can ask for a separate menu, which is pretty good. In fact, one of my carnivorous friends even ordered off the veggie menu. I'm totally obsessed with the deep-fried courgette flowers which I've had both times I've been.

The menu is classic and simple, and everything is prepared with attention and care. This is one of the best posh lunch venues in London.
