The Albion London Reviews

Mmm! - The Albion is a great place to chill, but can be a bit too hectic at weekends - expect long queues on Sunday lunchtimes.

Great British staples - big breakfasts, bacon butties, fish & chips, sausage & mash, welsh rarebit., etc., plus great puds and wicked cakes. All in all a good place for blow-out breakfasts, Shoreditch power lunches, afternoon tea or relaxed dinner. It's a great place for a pot of tea or coffee, people watching and calorie building!

The staff are (mostly) wonderful, and fun.

Magic on all levels - The recently opened rooftop bar is the icing on this already spectacular mega-plex. At 80 odd Sir Terence Conran is adept as ever as showing London how its done - far from his old stomping ground in the West its another reminder that the baromoter of London style is now well and truly in the East End. Unlike nearby Shoreditch House or the East Room it's open to all. Still wonderful is the ground floor posh caff (at not too posh prices), the french restaurant Boundary in the basement is also excellent, although a good deal more expensive. Nothing to complain about really.

A happy caff is a cool caff - Albion is a three-in-one affair; part caff, part bakery and part small shop selling fresh, quality British food and drink. Brought to you by restaurant empressario himself, Sir Terence Conran, it's part of the larger Boundary project which already includes the spretentious Boundary Restaurant and soon to be topped off with a hotel above.
Interior is all white tiles with communal and individual tables, an open kitchen while still managing to stay welcoming and familiar. Big doors down one side which no doubt will be wide open in summer on to a quite cobbled street - perfect for that photo shoot Saturday morning latte moment. We went in the evening in March so the doors were closed tight and inside was not so busy. Staff were great - really friendly, jokey and helpful. It's a caff after all so you don't expect service to be as starchy as the napkins you'd get at the Dorchester. Food is simple, not expensive and oh so tasty - pies, sandwiches, fry-ups, kedgeree, with crumble and other puddings to follow - not forgetting the now staple of any cool caf worth it's ketchup - the fairy cake!
With free wi-fi thrown in - I can quite see how one latte might turn to two and the slow death by bacon sarnie and fairy cake! But don't dispair you could always work it off by blagging your way in to shoreditch house next door for some laps in the roof top pool.
