Fighting Spirit - Just so we're transparent from the off - I used to work here. However, I hope you'll agree I like awesome stuff, and so the fact that I chose to work here should be testament to how much I liked it and hence, testament to its awesomeness.
Anyway. Let me begin. The Fighting Cocks was once a Goose, the tatty and stained brand under the M&B umbrella group, and didn't scrub up well next to the competition when Moseley developed into a polished little neighbourhood and left its faded bohemian past behind. So, it changed, and leapfrogged past its neighbours.
It benefits from probably the smartest position in the village, in a huge and beautiful building right at the crossroads. It's big inside, but not too big, and surrounds the central bar. There's a great walled garden for summer barbecues and year-round smokers, including a semi out house with leather sofas and old vinyl decorating the walls. It comes together well. Superb atmos. And did I mention, the staff are awesome?
Most importantly. The drinks are great. Seventeen (count 'em) beers on tap, around 30 bottled, a decent wine selection, and a load of spirits you won't get everywhere (particularly rums).
Admittedly, it hasn't been the same since I left (ha ha), but it's still well worth your time, attention and pennies.
