g-spa London Reviews

g-spa Hits the Spot - I’m not really a ‘spa’ type of girl. Having a facial is right up there with dentist appointments in my opinion (bright light in your eyes, scary looking instruments, white coated person messing around about one’s face; not my idea of a nice time).

So when I huffed and puffed down the stairs of LA Fitness South Kensington in search of g-spa, I had spent several hours mentally preparing to have my face mauled off by some non-smoking nun in orthopaedic shoes.

Boy-oh-boy was I wrong.

What may have been the best hour of entire life started with dim lights, soothing music and a prickly skin burning mask that felt like I was being tickled by tiny little elves. Seriously.

I was told to undress and put into a soft clean bed. Every step of the way Anneline (my facialist), made sure I was comfortable. There was only one slightly unpleasant, bright light moment, which was the extraction (I’m still not fully sure what that means, but frankly, I don’t want to know). The rest of the time I was bathed in dim lights and pampered.

I’m going to be honest with you, it took nearly all my will power not to fall asleep, and considering I was on a lunch break sandwiched between two pitching meetings to the BBC and ITV, I would say that Anneline has some amazing powers of relaxation at her fingertips. In the sleepy throes of a neck and shoulder massage I drunkenly told her that I wanted to live there with her forever. Luckily I can’t remember her response.

Of course the purpose of a facial is not to have a nice little daytime kip in between selling your soul to tv networks (but it sure as hell is a perk), the most important thing is the face test.

After returning to work all my colleagues had eagerly washed their fingertips in preparation to do a ‘before and after’ feel of my face; the results were conclusively positive. My face was softer, smoother and brighter. However my favourite reaction was of my local shopkeeper (who has known me to buy booze and fags for well over 10 months now); I got asked for ID to buy a lottery ticket. Of course he regretted that because I had him on the phone to my sister and boyfriend and about twenty other people so he could repeat that he suspected I was under 16 years old to everyone I knew.

That g-spa is some kind of miracle place, the likes of which Ponce De Leon was looking for.
