Bar, cafe and art gallery with free wifi. Serving cakes, toasted ciabatta, homemade soup and award winning coffee(!) the cafe now has an alter ego come eveningtime as 'Benny's Bar'.
The walls are lined with London street art, great music is piped through vintage boomboxes and there is a beer garden to the rear with regularly updated murals.
Downstairs is the gallery which hosts monthly street art exhibitions by UK and worldwide artists.

Coffee + Art + Beer - One of my favourite spots in London. Square Mile coffee with very competent baristas, BrewDog beer, awesome street art exhibitions inside and out, great outdoor space in summer (and I hear it’ll be covered for next winter), and super relaxed. You won’t be disappointed.

Austin opening night was superb. - After a long journey on the bike from Edinburgh to Central London I was the first to arrive for the grand opening of the Gallery/Cafe "Austin", were I had my picture taken and promptly served a much needed refreshment. After chatting to the organisers and friends, a steady stream of people trickled in through the doors which were kept shut as it was for invites only. Gradually all the people who had come along got to enjoy an evening of good live music and complimentary drinks as well as having their photos displayed along the wall of the downstairs art gallery, and there was a fine selection of art-work created by art students which were on sale.
It was a really good night and hope to make it down again to check out the superb coffee.

I found great coffee at last! - I don't normally write on these sites, but I found such a friendly nice little place I felt compelled to tipp. I am from Sydney where we take our coffee very seriously, I am fussy and normally have a double shot soya mocha (I know, I know). I have rarely bought coffee's which live up to the ones I had back home, until today when I discovered this cute little place. I live in Bethnal green and had never noticed it before. The coffee was great and the guy who runs it was really friendly. I ended up staying for an hour and chatting. Also there is a gallery downstairs which had an amazing illustration exhibition. I'm so pleased I have my new coffee supplier just near my house!

Fantastic coffee - cool street art! - Thanks for that Charles!
I too have walked past loads but after reading your review I went in today for the 1st time and wasn't disappointed!
The coffee is about the best I've tasted in London!!!
I had a Flat White which, for me, is the best test for a good coffee bar and was really bowled over!!
It even had a fancy pattern on top..
I also had a particularly tasty sandwich - mature cheddar cheese with onion jam ..mmmmmmmmm.
Although this was not made inhouse (which I normally prefer) - it was by a wholefoods producer called 'Pure Foods' and was extremely fresh and tasty.
I managed to resist a stupidly large piece of chocolate cake and have an almond pastry with my 2nd cup of delicious coffee :)
The weather wasn't really up for sitting in the garden, but I still went for a peak and there is a cool mural!
talking of cool art - they were mounting reclaimed street art when I was there and apparently the cafe area is becoming a 'museum' to it.
The exhibition downstairs was really interesting too..
oh, and the staff were very friendly too :)
My new hangout for sure!!

Awesome - I've walked past this place a bunch of times and even though the sign outside promises coffee, wifi, sandwiches, a garden out back and an art gallery (all things I love) I've always given it a miss, dismissing it as some pseudo hipster squat cafe - how wrong was I?

The interwebs failed at work today so was forced to pack up my laptop and set out in search of somewhere to work.

Actually what pulled me in this time was the sign that said they serve Square Mile coffee - a friend who used to work at Monmouth Coffee and is pretty much the Oracle when it comes to coffee / tea knowledge told me that they're the new awesome coffee roasters in town - so I ventured in.

The place is actually realy cute and the back garden is awesome and the wifi stretches out there, in fact this is where I'm writing the review from. The coffee is good and super cheap.

It turns out the place is owned by ArtKandy who promote graduate artists and they have a bunch of shows downstairs in the gallery space.

Anyway this place is great and I'll be coming here a lot more, the staff are super friendly and its not at all like I imagined.
