Worst service I've ever experienced - Wow. This place was amazing. It managed to have the worst, slowest, rudest customer service I've EVER come across. They also managed to mess up our order, and the food was inedible. Well done, Camden Food Co - three out of three!

OK, if you're stuck at Birmingham New Street station things are bad enough already, and you probably don't expect a gourmet treat. But at this place we asked for (a) a cup of tea (b) two porridges with sugar. You wouldn't have thought that would take 15 minutes, or that it was possible to screw up an order that simple. Not so.

First of all, we waited for 10 minutes for them to serve the two people in front of us. There were three staff on duty, but only one was serving - the others glumly pushed dishcloths around and studiously avoided eye contact.

That's not great service anywhere, but in a train station - where half the people are nervously watching the clock - it's particularly bad. Everyone in the queue began to tut and catch each other's eye in that British way...

When we got to the counter, I (in my politest, most sorry-to-bother-you voice) said that we only had five minutes to catch our train, please could we get our order quickly? The woman I asked gave me a death stare, a truly FILTHY look, and didn't even bother replying before she turned her back!

The guy who served us was friendlier, but seemed to be on temazepam. It took him four minutes (I timed it) to put a tea bag and hot water into a cup, scoop out two pots of porridge, and take our cash.

We sprinted down the escalators and along the platform, spilling hot tea everywhere. Only to discover (luckily we just made the train) that the porridge was full of dry, unmixed lumps. And they'd forgotten the sugar.

So we threw away the inedible porridge, and I nursed the tea burns on my hand, and we had to laugh.

Then I went to their website to complain - not something I've ever done before, about any company. When I wrote, I ticked the box asking for a response. Have they got back to me, in the two months since? Have they hell.

Camden's website says they offer "the freshest food and best quality products, with speedy and friendly service". If you took every word in that sentence and replaced it with its exact opposite, that'd be about right.

In fact, let's try it: Camden offer "the worst-cooked food and lowest quality products, with glacially slow and deeply unfriendly service".

Yep, that's a much more accurate corporate slogan!
