Dirty Martini for dirty business - I ended up in Dirty Martini when struggling for a late night drink in Covent Garden. The secluded booths and darkened lighting means it's all too easy to get into a world of your own and miss the last tube home.... oops. This bar leads to trouble! I'd stay away from the eponymous drink though - nobody would want to kiss you after drinking that pond water monstrosity. Other cocktails are pricey but reasonably good. 20-09-08

Great Happy Hour Deal - So generally speaking Dirty Martini is not my scene, it's more clubby than I am into for the most part. It's downstairs, in a medium-sized room lined with booths and a few tables in the middle of the room. Dark and noisy, it strikes me more as a Manhattan-style club than the mellow boozers I like to patronize.

However, I have to admit that Dirty Martini has an amazing happy hour deal! They have half-off of all drinks and cocktails, which can translate into amazing steals. I went with a group of friends, and we were able to drink two bottles of wine and a platter of veggie snacks for about £10/pp. We also snagged one of the roomy booths in the corner, which provided a good area to survey the scene in front of us.

I don't think that I would come here outside of the happy hour times, but there's something to be said for a £16 bottle of wine for £8, or a £32 bottle for £16, for that matter! The scene is a bit away from what I like, lots of clubbing types and too many neckties for my liking, but again, prices during happy hour can't be beat! 29-05-08
