The Black Rat Restaurant, Winchester is a restaurant and bar serving high quality food with locally produced ingredients. We are open for dinner Monday - Sunday evening and Saturday and Sunday for lunch.

The Black Rat is a converted pub that still has its warmth and friendliness, but is now a fine dining restaurant. The food is all freshly prepared in our kitchen and could be described as ‘Modern British’. We have a bar upstairs where you can have a pre-dinner drink and peruse the menu. We also welcome guests who aren’t dining with us but would like to try are wine menu to feel free to use the bar.

A fine nights dinning in winchester - The Black Rat is at the south east edge of the town centre and feels like it has been lifted straight out of Hoxton in London.

High class food, some original dishes and some more unusual menu items keep it fresh and exciting. I liked the wood pigeon with orange and the wild halibut and mussels, finished off with a Rum Barba that I have not seen on a menu for a while.

It was nice to start in the upstairs bar for a drink while we looked at the menu. The walls show stripped brick back old pub so there is a lot of wood and brick showing and some nice Gothic patterned wall paper.

Finished up with a nice coffee and with plenty of time not to be rushed means we have come back a few times. 13-03-08
