Westbourne House London Reviews

Empty for a reason - There's a damn good reason this place is a ghost town. Overpriced drinks and overstyled interior = no peeps = no atmosphere = no peeps = ... oh you know how it goes.

Disappointing, since this place could be awesome, but Frankie Says Relax on the music, lighting, staff etc. THEN they'll get the peeps and the parties.

Upscale, Not too snobby. - Had a friend's birthday drinks here and was a little nervous on the way in. Big bulky doorman and tittering lithe women in light floral dresses usually marks a place as too posh for my tastes. Still, as it was a special occasion, I held my breath and took the plunge.

I wouldn't say I was exactly rewarded for my choice - the drinks were expensive and although my group managed to annex a large chunk of the bar, seats were nevertheless in short supply - my fears were not confirmed. The space is actually rather nice, with high ceilings and a large room with a fair amount of open space. There is a fireplace at one end of the room that provides some ambiance, and a few other rooms with more seating out of sight.

The place seems to focus more on cocktails, although I was happy to sup on Star, my lager of choice. The bartenders were friendly, and even offered several rounds of special shots for the birthday girl and friends, which was a nice touch. The place was mostly full of kind of stereotypical Notting Hill types, but fortunately they kept to themselves, so I will leave them alone here. Also interesting was a little old lady who came in towards the end of the night and sat quietly at the end of the bar having a drink (the bartender obviously recognized her and brought her usual over once she entered) and reading a book. Odd, but that little demonstration of caring by the bar went a long way towards stemming any reflexive dismissal of the place for snobbery.

I don't really hang in the neighborhood, but I would go back if I were around.
