Friendly with fantastic food - The Primrose Cafe is light food, coffees and cakes kind of place during the day but opens in the evening for more substantial meals. It's located at the end of a Victorian arcade and has a shabby chic kind of vibe that I find charming and homely.

Service was quick and attentive and there was no faulting the generosity: olives were on the table, followed by fresh baked bread and a lobster appetiser, all of which was free.

Although there was rabbit and pigeon on the menu the real attraction is the seafood. We had pan-fried mackral that was fantastic, crispy skin with salt on one side yet without drying out the meat on the other. The hake was also excellent, it is not something I would usually order but was cooked soft and crumbling.

The vegetables accompanying the fish were excellent, really fresh and with a balance of flavours and seasoning.

To close there was an excellent summer pudding that again continued the theme of freshness of ingredients and balance of flavours in the cooking.

The whole thing was a real treat, just like dining out is meant to be!
