Disagreeable and sneaky at best - Recently I booked A1 to pick up my mother from Heathrow. Her flight landed at 7am (on time) and, due to taxiing, immigration, baggage reclaim and customs, she came out of the terminal at about 8:30am. The A1 driver called her as planned, but it turned out he had gone to the wrong terminal (even though A1 claims they will know where to go based on your flight details). This wasted a bit of time but was no big deal.
But when the driver dropped her off at my house he tried to charge £16 for "waiting," making the overall fee £48 (not much less than a black cab would have been). I called to complain and was told that they charge £16 per hour of waiting beyond one hour. I asked when this man showed up at the airport, because he should not have been there any earlier than 7:30am for a 7:00am international arrival. On top of that I said the "wait" fee was never mentioned before--either on the phone when I booked the car or when my mom was picked up. The driver simply dropped my mother off demanding twice as much as we had agreed, and mom, having just arrived in the UK, did not have enough to cover it. I was furious and called to complain. A1 did not have an answer, other than "this is what all private car services do" and that the policy was stated on their "website." After conveying my objection, I said I would not be using the service again. The A1 employee on the other end said "and we do not want you as well." Then he hung up.
I have since been unable to find a website for this company. Needless to say I will be stearing clear in the future. There are plenty of car services out there and I suppose I can't guarantee that any of them will be any better, but they could not possibly be worse.
