Bathroom extractor fan - Simon gave a good impression when he came over to quote on some roof works, so I asked him to quote on fitting an extractor and venting to our bathroom.

His labourer came round and was working from 8:30am to 8pm to try and get the job done in 1 day. When he left, there were a lot of issues - unfilled, un painted holes left all over the place, the fan didn't work and the venting was not properly connected.

I told Simon and he sent the guy back another day to fix. The fan still didn't work after this, we looked up the model and saw it was the cheapest money could buy (for the type he'd quoted for), so no great surprise. The labourer came round again.

3 weeks later it still wasn't sorted, but Simon started chasing payment. He then (3 weeks later!) tried to add on extra cost, which we were never consulted on at any point.

Needless to say it was all a very stressfull experience, which all seemed to stem from Simon cutting every corner he could - fitting a cheap fan and trying to get his labourer to hurry a job through in a day. Then for him to demand more money 3 weeks later was just too much!

The fan still doesn't work properly - we've tried it on every setting. We're now saving up to get a decent one fitted.

Excellent local building contractor - People often have the image of the average building contractor with his rear end hanging out and scruffy to boot. I was pleasantly surprised to find Simon in a suit and tie with pleasant disposition. The job in hand was explained and I never felt any point was being overlooked. All further enquiries were dealt with in good order and I found them paying attention to detail without me even having to worry about asking. Highly recommended.
