Scammed by Old Hat - In 2006 while visiting London, my husband and I ordered and paid for a bespoke formal edwardian vest from Old Hat's store in the Arcade on Jermyn St. We paid over $450 for the vest. We never received it. We telephoned, telephoned and telephoned. The phone would just ring with no one ever answering it. Finally, I called Old Hat on Fulham High St. who never would help us. Bottom line: We were defrauded out of $450. We paid and never received the vest, never could get any help from the Fulham St. location, and never could even get a "live" person to answer the phone at Jermyn St. My husband and I returned to London last week to go to the Jermyn St. store. Guess what?! They are no longer there! I say to everyone: "BEWARE of Old Hat!" They are a terrible store with terrible service and, from our experience, they are dishonest. 09-08-10

Gentleman for less - Being a true gentleman is mostly a matter of behaviour but let's be honest, the aspects of the clothing are important as well.
I've been staying in London about 2 years but I just realized that I haven't come across a classic English gentleman so far (I mean a stereotype I know from literature). It's really difficult to meet a man wearing his top coat and a hat proudly, smoking a pipe in a chick way...
Luckily, Old Hat vintage shop gave me some hope and helped to believe that English gentlemen haven't died off as somebody needs to buy in this store.
The shop doesn't look stunning but offers a gentleman's must-have accessories beginning with handkerchiefs and signet rings, ending with gloves. Apart from that, you can find frock-coats, good quality vintage suits (from tailors) and lots of tweed jackets. Oh, and hats of course! All male customers may count on professional help and good prices, and even if they're confused there's always somebody to give a piece of advice.
I went there with my friend (who looked like a gunk) and came back with a gentleman(this transformation cost him about £100 in total). 22-09-08
