Florence Tavern London Reviews

WARNING, DO NOT BOOK FOR FUNCTION - Although the pub took my booking on 3 May - for 60 people for a champagne reception between 5.30 and 8.45pm on Monday 2 July (the fine detail of which was confirmed by me in an email) before a gig at the Assembly Hall next door - they subsequently failed to answer the telephone or engage in email correspondence.

After receiving no email or telephone response, I visited the pub and was reassured that everything was ok, they said they're just not too good at email and answering the phone when busy. I was told they could do Thai food only - somewhat at odds with our original conversations and what they offer on their website, but by this time I'd already sent out the invitations so decided to go with what they suggested. I was reassured... although still uneasy. On the Friday before the event (planned for Monday 2 July) I went up to the pub just to make sure everything was in order. I had to leave London by 4.15pm and the pub was not open, no one was in sight at 4pm. I spoke to a neighbour of the pub who said "oh, he has a bit of a relaxed attitude to opening times". Again, I was reassured.

The event was a surprise party for my husband's 60th birthday - all details were confirmed in writing to the pub via email. I had purchased 60 tickets for us and close friends and family to see the Little Feat gig at the Assembly Rooms next door. I got to the pub at 4.40pm. The pub was closed. I waited... 5.15pm, I rattled the doors and banged on the windows. Nothing. The pub was supposed to open at 4pm. I had the prospect of 60 friends arriving imminently and a closed pub. At 5.40 I went to another pub and they agreed, reluctantly, to accommodate us. Frantic texting to everyone ensued. I posted two of my sons at The Florence and they sent people from the (still closed at 6.25pm) pub to the emergency revised venue.

Late comers went to the pub (which did eventually open) and enquired about the party... they were nonchalantly informed "oh yeah... there is something in the diary."

This pub does not offer what anything like what it says on the website. Although they took no money from me in advance they completely ruined an unrepeatable event. I am extremely upset and unhappy that they can potentially ruin any event of any unsuspecting punter thinking that their website is in any way, shape or form, a reflection of the service that they offer.

Their website should be taken off the air.
