Pimlico Plumbers London Reviews

On 8 Feb I made an appointment with Pimlico to fix my boiler. They charged me £150 for the work. I filled out a Pimlico contact form explaining that the timer wasn’t working properly. The engineer arrived and I had to explain the problem with the timer again. He then made a phone call to someone, asking what he should do, and then told me that I would need a new timer and he would order one. There was nothing else he could do till he got the new timer. I explained that I had written all this down on the contact form, so he should have known what the problem was. Also that I had paid £150 and he had stayed for 15 minutes and not actually done any work. He said the money I had paid was a call out charge!
(The Pimlico Plumbers website clearly states on the Rates page “No call out fee”. )
I made a complaint to Pimlico’s Customer Services. Their Consumer complaint resolution policy states that We aim to respond to all complaints within 48 hours.
12 days later there was still no response. When I attempted 3 times to phone Customer Services, I was put through to the wrong department and then they hung up on me.

I sent a second complaint and then they deigned to respond to my first complaint, saying

“Please note that a call-out fee is a fee charged for the call out in addition to any labour charges for the visit. We do not charge any call-put fees, you have been charged the minimum charge of on hour for the engineer’s visit to your property, assessment, and professional advice.”

So let me get this straight. I paid £150 for the Pimlico engineer to tell me what I had already told him in writing. Because they carry no parts , I then would have to pay out at least another £150 for him to come back and actually do the job

At this point I cancelled the job.

I got a plumber to fix my toilet, a few weeks later it was broken,
Confirmed by the second plumber that it was bad work done by the first plumber and got no refund or help from Pimlico Plumbers, now I'm back to square one
Only with a bill of 770£ (!!!) by Pimlico Plumbers and no solutions.
Customer service basically told me it's my problem!!!
I must add that the plumber charge by the hour and really take their time
and work slow.

Fraudulent and/or incompetent - Do not trust this company. My boiler’s gas valve needed replacing. Pimlico said it was impossible to get the part and tried to sell me a new boiler. I found the exact same part, new in the box with guarantee, at a plumbers’ merchants the next day. Pimlico Plumbers are either fraudulent or incompetent. Do not trust the information or advice they give you.

NOT GUARANTEED AND UNRELIABLE - My boiler was not keep up pressure and as the end of the day was approaching on a cold November night, I called Pimlico plumbers to attend to it. Their engineers, polite and clean cut diagnosed the fault very quickly "found leak in ensuite bathroom radiator so made safe". He told us that we should consider a new towel rack (he provided a quote of £550+VAT) and also he said that he had not heard of our boiler brand before so we should consider changing the boiler at some point. When asked whether any of these repairs were urgent he said no. We paid £156 which we considered fair under the circumstances. Fast forward12 hours and the system has not pressure and we have no heat. These things happen of course, so Ii expected the nice man to come back and go over his work. Pimlico were quick to point out that their work was not guaranteed and a new visit by the engineer would be chargeable at £156/hour. When I pointed out that it had been less than 12 hours since the repair I was referred back to the invoice which said that the work was not guaranteed. I asked to speak to a manager, but I was told that the managers are busy and would not say anything different. I brought in a plumber for another company who quickly identified another leak in the system (pretty obvious as there was water under the radiator) and quickly fixed it. I emailed Pimlico again with this information and I was told that their engineer would not look for another leak once he found one (supposingly to save the customer money). Considering that there were only 5 radiators and one had water under it, I hardly think that much investigation was needed, especially since the engineer had bled the radiator and would have seen the leak. All in all, if you are considering using this company, beware that they do not stand behind their work even if their repair lasts less than 12 hours.

Fantasic Servicexxx - Fantastic service and fingers crossed all radiators working for first time for 10 years.
Sam replaced the boiler and fitted flue with minimal disturbance and was extremely nice to have around.
The price estimate nearly caused a divorce but am hopeful that the efficiency of the workmanship will be lasting as well as our marriage!
Thankyou very much."

Thank you for great Job - I wanted to send you a quick email to thank you for the speedy and professional job that you guys did in replacing our boiler earlier in January: it was great to have the work completed so soon after the problem arose and you guys clearly put a lot of thought in to an appropriate solution. In particular I would like to highlight that John Lees-Whitehead did an excellent job - he was reliable, painstakingly careful, did an extremely thorough and neat job (the lagging is a work of art!), and followed-up appropriately afterwards to ensure the refuse was taken away, the felt was applied etc. He even came in over the weekend to ensure the job was finished within the week (which given the cold weather, was hugely appreciated). While clearly not the cheapest option, we would definitely use Pimlico Plumbers again."

They assume people are stupid - Great first impressions - polite, timely guy comes round and gives my wife a quote for replacing a three way valve and a programmable heating timer.

When someone else comes round to do the work, however, it runs to £900+ with the bulk of it labour.

Fine I think - I wasn't there I just heard about it from my wife, and if he tells her that there's something so strange about the valve that fitting an identical replacement requires hours and hours (at £80 an hour + VAT) then I’ll believe it. After all, what do I know other than winter’s coming and I need this working...?

What I was there for, however, was coming home and finding that as soon as I tried to programme the timer it gave me an "invalid dip setting" error and the unit wouldn't work.

This is an interesting error - interesting in as much as Google has no solutions to it. Took an hour to work out that this referred to the dip switch settings you can access if you remove the programmer from the back plate.

(FYI it's a siemens rwb29 - hopefully if you've just been scammed in the way I think we were you're now reading this review and I've saved you some money...)

It then took 30 seconds to see that the unit has clear instructions on the back for how to set the switches for standard operating modes and that the way it had been set up didn't match any of them. Almost as if it was set up to cock up.

NEGLIGENT OR DELIBERATE? Who knows, but at that price it's beyond outrageous... A child could work out how to set the switches correctly....

Let's make this clear - I'm the world's most useless person at DIY, but I’m OK with reading a manual on Google, and once I'd worked out what the error meant I could fix an £80 an hour professional's 'error' in less than a minute... Make of that what you will....

My wife had made an appointment for them to come and look at it the next day, (obviously we cancelled) at which point I imagine we'd have been spun some story about how it was a defective unit, that they wouldn't recharge us for the unit (which I now suspect they might have ripped us off for as well, btw) but that they'd have to charge us for the call out.

I feel stupid, don't you feel stupid too: DON'T CALL THESE PEOPLE.

Pimlico plumbers STAY AWAY - I had arranged for a visit for a simple procedure of a bathroom sink replacement. I can say I commend him on being very punctual but that's about all I'm afraid.

From the very offset he was apathetic and more determined to find reasons why he could not do the job than the job itself.
Reasons like:

The waste was the wrong height, (which it wasn't)
That he couldn't get his pipe cutter round the pipes, (which when I suggested he use a hacksaw he was reluctant)
He told me the tiles had to be removed before the work was to be carried out (Which was not necessary)
That the job would take in excess of 4 hours by a qualified plumber (Which I managed to do in 1.5 hours)
That the basin had no overflow (Which perplexed me as to a reason why not to carry out the work)
That it would look odd as it would not be butted up against the wall (It’s a free standing basin and cabinet)
Etc… etc …

So he spent and hour telling me why this could not be done, yet when I attempted to do the job (I am not a plumber) I managed it in 1.5 hours.
I could not help but think he had somewhere else to be. I sincerely hope for the sake of reputation that this is not the standard of operation for Pimlico Plumbers.

I was under the impression that Pimlico was a reputable company with highly trained staff but found this to be very disappointing and I have come to doubt the ability and qualification and esteem of your plumbers.

Terrible company - DO NOT use !! - I deal with a lot of plumbers, electricians etc as I look after a number of properties - I have never been more disappointed with a company so felt the need to let other customers know... Never never use Pimlico Plumbers, their call centre agents promise anything on the phone, but once the engineer turns up there is a different story altogther..

I called their customer services dept to complain, and was dealt with very rudely and basically told there was nothing they could do as the invoice had already been paid (they have never heard of the word 'refund') - their customer care dept do not 'care' at all - I would never use this company again

Dont use for Worcester Bosch - Pimlico charged GBP 1,059 to replace as heat exchanger on my Worcester Bosch boiler. Expensive, but it took a long time the guy seemed good and was helpful. First time we use the shower it goes cold almost straight away. Different Pimlico guy comes - boiler blocked internally (says it often happens after disturbing the system, no mention of that before they did the job) wont give a firm quote but "about the same again", says boiler in really poor condition we should replace (first guy had said it wasnt too bad internally.)

Replacement quote is GBP 5792.75 + maybe a power flush GBP940 + stone worktop needs removing (GBP1,000 quote from kitchen company, my risk if it breaks). Another WB approved firm quotes GBP 3524 including the power wash and no need to remove worktop. Same 5y gtee on both.

Call Worcester Bosh technical helpdesk. She says re the initial repair "there is no way that it should have cost that much money to be perfectly blunt" and the boiler should be fine for years. Next day and GBP 360 later WB guy has fixed it (took 2.5 hrs) and I have 12mths service & repair cover. Without the repair cover but with 18 day gtee it would have been a fixed fee of GBP 280.

Complain to Pimlico and ask for a refund. They say it was working fine when they left, accuse me of lying about it not working later the same day and say its not their problem anyway. Apparently they have no issue with the fact that they would have charged me eight times what WB charged without even guaranteeing it to for a few days. I know who I'll be using next time.

Absolutely Excellent - My boiler stopped working yesterday. I called Pimlico Plumbers and within 40 minutes there was someone at my flat. They figured out what the problem was straight away. I had had awful cowboy plumbers (Ability plumbers) around a few months before who hadn't spotted any of the problems the very professional plumber from Pimlico plumbers did.
Turns out my old boiler was completely on its last legs. They recommended one and said they could fit it the following day (today)
He arrived on time at half eight and was very polite, tidy and professional throughout.
I did a couple of checks on price comparisons and they worked out roughly similar. Pimlico are a little more expensive on first glance but what you save on is that they get it right the first time and responsible for their works afterwards. So you don't have to get things done twice.

Would highly recommend to anyome.

Rip-off merchants. - These mob really take the biscuit in terms of ripping their customers off. We were charged £700 to replace a stop-cock which a local plumber said should have costed £100 maxium. Charlie Mullins clearly has to keep up his tango-orange tan but I just wish it wasn't the public that had to pay over the odds for his 'cowboys' to charge what they want.

DONT EVER USE PIMLICO PLUMBERS - I called them because my kitchen floor was very hot and thought that it might be a burst pipe underneath the floor. They sent a plumber and within 3 minutes He said it was only condensation and I should get a dehumidifier machine. When I called the company to say that no work was carried out I was told they would still charge me £80 plus vat. I said they advertised NO CALL OUT CHARGE and I understand to pay for their travelling time and reasonable charge but £80 was excesive. I was then told they didnt need clients like me and hanged up the phone .

Pimlico Plumbers - Pimlico Plumbers are expensive and dubious in operation, I've used PP for a couple of years to service my boiler, which was £140 this year, that's not the bad bit.
The boiler had started coming on in the middle of the night (not the frost switch), which we suspected was the timer. We've had problems with the Ariston Boiler from new (never buy one of these). PP told my partner he couldn't find anything wrong with the timer.
When he left the panel on the front was not fitted back properly. And the boiler wouldn't start unless the panel was held in. When he came back and he checked everything over and refitted the front panel properly. He charged me £103, after a little 'discussion'!
He went away again and then the boiler wouldn't switch off from the timer. He came back and said the timer had packed up! He then told me when he come the first time he hadn't looked at the timer as we'd said it was the frost switch. And charged me another £103, after another discussion!
They are a large company with 150 engineers and a lot of overheads, they have to get in as much money as possible at the moment. Be very careful how you deal with them and what you say to the engineers.

Great service all around - When my husband and I first moved to London we had a nightmare of a boiler that kept breaking. Our landlords were cheap and called a few different 'repairmen' and one plumber that all said they fixed the problem but each only made it worse.

Finally I took the matter into my own hands and called Pimlico Plumbing, who'd been recommended by a coworker. They were upbeat and responsive on the phone (shocking!), and they came within 2 hours of my call on a Sunday. The plumber who showed up was friendly and super professional, not shady like the characters we'd had before. He accurately diagnosed the problem, talked me through how he was fixing it, and was very clear and above board about pricing, which was reasonable as far as plumbers go.

This was probably the best experience I've had with a plumber in any country, and that's saying a lot!

My advice: don't waste your time with other plumbers in London...it's definitely worth calling Pimlico Plubmers from the start.
