Pham Sushi London Reviews

Delicious + Cheap = Pham - I'm always interested in trying new sushi places (basically I'm looking for 'the one', you know the perfect sushi restaurant I can settle down with and give my heart to), so when my fiance got a tip that Pham was somewhat of a hidden gem, we went over there as fast as our little boots could take us.

The restaurant is small, the size of your regular east end ciggie booze shop, but it's decorated very, very tastefully and clean looking. It was a wednesday at 7:00 and the place was fully booked which I think is a good sign during these recession filled times. We could either wait an hour or sit at the microscopic sushi bar at the back. We chose the bar, which I do not recommend if you are tall as you're basically going to have your knees pressed tightly against a wall for an hour.

The menu was quite simple and one thing I liked is they stuck to being a japanese restaurant and didn't try to add chinese favourites on there for those who are cultural idiots and want chow mein when they go out for sushi.

We ordered a variety of things and truth be told, my sushi exploits always end up being very expensive for my fiance because I want 3 orders of spicy tuna rolls (that's 32 pieces), and 8 peices of sashimi and salmon skin rolls and miso and sake and green tea and lychee icecream and tempura. I would say I sampled a great smattering of the menu and my opinion is... it's delicious! It was very, very good. Traditional sushi, made and cut excellently; they really outdo themselves on their rolls I would say and the lines of the sashimi are very clean and lean is the fish.

All in all, very pleasant atmosphere, friendly waitstaff and delciious sushi.

The only problem was when the bill arrived. I mentioned the amount I ordered above... and the total bill was £35. In what world does 32 pieces of sushi, 8 pieces of sashimi, tempura, miso soup x 2, green tea x 2, large hot sake, and lychee icecream equal £35? I thought there had been some kind of mistake, that perhaps it was £35 each totalling £70 which I would have happily paid... but no.

This is actual cheap, delicious sushi! I thought that was just an urban sushi myth.
