As the name would suggest, this chain of shops buy, sell and exchange records, tapes, CDs and videos as well as computer games, TV and film memorabilia, books, comics, clothing, jewellery and accessories. They also deal with a wide range of audio visual and photographic equipment. You are required to bring ID with your address and signature when selling or exchanging items. This branch has a rarities department with lots of promos and memorabilia and a large bargain basement with thousands of titles on sale.

Great Book Shop - The Music and Video exchange shops are a Notting Hill institution. There are about 6 actual shops that are situated along Pembridge Rd and Notting Hill Gate but the book shop, is in my opinion, the jewel in the crown.

Its not huge and the two aisles are narrow but the shelves are packed to the ceilings with great books new and old.

The way these shops work is that you bring in all your unwanted books (or whatever) and they offer you say £5 or £10 worth of vouchers to spend in any of the exchange shops - this is how they get all of their stock.

They have the usual sections, fiction, biography, music and reference but also a 'cult' section thats filled with all sorts of beat writers or Philip K Dick and another section with loads of old copies of The Face or NME from the 80's and 90's (my favorite treat).

If you love buying books on the cheap then this is the spot for you. Its also great for when you need to get rid of a load of old books although beware, they drive a pretty hard bargain and you usually have to take the vouchers to make it worth it. 01-11-07
