The Somerset Hotel London Reviews

Olympic visitors beware of London - What will olympic visitors think of London? If this hotel represents London as a two** hotel, then London is in for an international downgrading as a centre of tourism!
I am English and quite frankly I'm ashamed of this as an offering to our international guests.
Arrived c.6pm, long wait outside after ringing the doorbell and an even longer wait inside for someone to appear. Reception dark and dingy, and room bleak and unwelcoming with dirty oversize curtains and windows. No entrance light. Ancient TV didn't work and there were no tea/coffee making facilities. The basement bar/lounge area looked like a building site and was freezing cold. Place should be closed in the interests of international relations.

Never ever visit this hotel - This 'hotel' (I use the term very loosely) is a complete dung heap. Do not be suckered in by any review suggesting otherwise. Anyone who thinks this place is OK must live in a tent! When me, my wife and two young children arrived we couldn't get in. The intercom button was smashed. When we did we were met by the one employee (or family member) who was on duty for the whole weekend. When we got into the room the carpets were threadbare along with all of the carpets we saw. The furniture was circa 1980. The curtains, behind which we found an old cashew nut relaxing, were similarly ancient and didn't fit the wooden curtain poles. When you did look out the windows you couldn't see too much because they were so dirty. There was paint/plaster peeling off the ceiling. There was a TV, however, it wasn't plugged into an aerial so we got to watch interference! What is the point in having a TV and not connecting it to an aerial? There was a base for a kettle but the room was a kettle free zone. No tea of coffee either. The shower didn't work. It took 10 minutes to heat up but then became scalding hot. It couldn't be turned down because the shower controls were broken. We couldn't put the kids under that! In the 1980's wardrobe my son found two paper 'Primark' bags full of empty beer cans, takeaway containers oh and an old suitcase! The enamel at the bottom of the toilet 'U' bend had worn away so it looked like the skid marks that a gorilla after a night on the Guinness would leave! Breakfast consisted of three different types of cereal, yoghurt, fruit juice and toast. To spread on your toast was jam/marmalade etc contained in 'Kilner' jars. Tubs of 'Clover' spread had been left out. There was 'Clover' in the jam and jam in the 'Clover' Nothing appeared to have been refrigerated. We were first down for breakfast and everything was warm! To sum up this is NOT a hotel. It is a s**t hole vaguely disguised as a backpackers hostel. I have seen vagrants put up in better accommodation. The most admirable part of the stay was the one employee who managed to keep the smile of his face when he took our cash! Would I go back to this place?............I would rather shove wasps up my bottom. DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!!!!!!!!
