An Oasis of Calm - Things had reached crisis point. I couldn't see where I was going and my ends had more splits than Jen and Brad. I made a booking at EH and worried.
For me, a trip to the salon is usually as much fun as root canal or child birth - I've never enjoyed it but let me tell you dear reader, EH is just not like any other salon you've ever been to.
I was greeted by the devastatingly gorgeous Alan who ushered me in to the quiet, clean, inner sanctum of EH where I had a consultation with EH owner Hazel Collins and my stylist, Melanie. Hazel asked me what I would like done and as I'd have felt really silly saying 'make me look as lovely as you do...' I said, 'well I'd like to be able to see where I'm going...' A long discussion followed with Melanie commenting on my bone structure (pardon? I mean, who knew I had bone structure!) and working out exactly how my hair was to be cut.
I had a short time to browse the lovely assortment of gifts of all kinds on display. A beautiful jewellery box caught my eye and the price tag was ridiculously low. I'll be back to EH in the run up to Christmas. I can get my hair cut and do all my Christmas shopping all in one hit. Now that's what I call multi tasking...
Alan brought me coffee and I thanked him and tried not to dribble. (I swear this man could have bought me arsenic or mouldy yoghurt and I wouldn't have cared...)
But something else happened while I waited. Even though my Blackberry was beeping for attention, I settled back in my comfy chair and this week’s 'Hello' and everything inside of me just got really calm and still and the mad hectic life I'd been leading was gone.
Sometime later, Melanie began washing my hair and it was wonderful; water just the right temperature, no pain from scratchy fingernails and fantastic lotions and potions were massaged into my hair.
Next came the cutting. It is usually at this point that my hands are white knuckles, gripping the arm rests but Melanie's air of calm is infectious and I just sat back and purred while this tiny little lady got to work. It was poetry in motion to watch her light footwork as she moved around cutting, assessing, standing back to look and moving in again with her comb. After drying and styling my hair I couldn't actually believe what she had managed to achieve with my unruly mop. My hair had life and bounce and looked healthy. I looked years younger and couldn't stop grinning.
I floated out of EH I don't know how long later having been given an umbrella to protect my 'do' from the rain and been waived off like an old friend.
This really is a special team of people who do not fawn over customers but who nonetheless know how to pamper and make each of their clients feel special.

Great gifts, and hair too! - I walked past yesterday afternoon and the cool rubber ducks in he window caught my eye! Definitely made me smile after a long Friday at work.
It's my Mum's birthday on Tuesday so thought I'd pop in. I had no idea what to buy Mum so asked for a bit of help! Within 10 minutes I had been given masses of choice, and ended up choosing some really cool presents (and bought myself a duck too!).
The assistant was so nice, and I noticed it was a hair salon also, so I ended up having a haircut too!! This was a great start to the weekend, so thanks EH for an unexpectedly great end to a bad week at work!
